Baldwinsville, Lakeside and Liverpool were dispatched to a reported apartment fire in the Cedarwood Apartments just after 9pm Monday night. Engine 1 (Lt Kennedy) arrived first due with heavy smoke coming from a 2 1/2 story apartment building with civilians out front reporting people trapped inside. Engine 1 stretched the hand line into the structure while command (Chief Cerio) gave the primary search assignment to 2nd arriving Rescue 6 (Capt O'Kelly). The fire was extinguished quickly by Engine 1's crew along with primary and secondary searches of the building completed by multiple crews which found the building to be vacant. The fire had started in the basement of the building and heavily effected the storage room and main corridor of the structure. The occupants of all 8 apartments were displaced from the fire but were quickly being assisted by the American Red Cross at the scene. Onondaga County Fire Investigators were called to the scene to determine what caused the fire.
